Paddy Gower’s take on media, PR and moving on

One Plus One’s Kelly Bennett chats with Gower about life after Newshub, finding the upside and telling stories that stick.

Paddy Gower began his career at the New Zealand Herald, where he worked in the newsroom on the graveyard shift. He now describes himself humbly as a "journalist focussed on positive news and solutions".

For more than 20-years on TV, print, radio and online, he's told remarkable Kiwi stories of many kinds, all of which have struck a chord with the country. And whether it's the royal family, drugs, drinking or ice - his documentaries have drawn some of the biggest audiences of recent times.

Previously the political editor and then national correspondent for Newshub (formerly 3Now), Paddy and nearly 300 others lost their jobs at the company mid-way through last year. He emerged from this challenging period of professional change by producing his own stories with his mate Jon Bridges at BelieverMedia and his popular TFN collaboration with media partner Stuff.

Our Managing Director Kelly Bennett (who also started out doing the graveyard shift at TVNZ) sat down with Paddy for a quick chat about his relationship with PR, how to stay positive and the benefits that come with giving up the booze.
