Introducing the One Plus One Class of ‘25

As the final stretch of 2025 begins, One Plus One Communications is formally welcoming three new graduates to the business.

Emily Hill, Sophie Vlašić and Louis Taylor have all started at One Plus One this year as Account Executives, with Emily and Sophie having both started in March, while Louis joined the business this month following a number of account wins.

Emily joined One Plus One having completed a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Media, Communications and Marketing at the University of Otago. As part of her time at university, Emily spent six months in the UK at the University of Exeter and also spent time as a Law Clerk while studying in Dunedin.

Sophie joined the team having completed a Bachelor of Communications majoring in Public Relations and minoring in Media Studies at Massey University. Between finishing university and starting at One Plus One, Sophie spent a summer with Northland Council, helping improve community engagement and empowerment among local rangatahi.

Louis has just started at One Plus One, having recently completed a Bachelor of Communication Studies majoring in Public Relations at Auckland University of Technology (AUT). During his time at university, Louis put his skills to use for the Auckland Philharmonia and is now excited to extend them even further.

We thought we’d grab the class of ‘25 and find out what makes them tick.

So team, what are you enjoying most about working at One Plus One so far?

Emily: Honestly - our clients! We get to work with such a diverse range of businesses from all different sectors, which means constantly learning about different industries. Being able to see the genuine business impact our work has for our clients is really rewarding. Oh, and a trip to Melbourne recently was a pretty cool experience!

Sophie: I love the variety of work, the people and the fact that I have a team around me who I'm constantly learning from.

Louis: After three years at university, I was bursting to get into the industry, so overall I’ve loved having the opportunity to channel that eagerness and passion into my work. I’ve also loved understanding the nitty-gritty work that clients do and how it affects people and the industries they sit within.

Social media continues to live and die by what's trending. Which trend will you be happy to see the back of in 2026?

E: I think that super-aesthetic, curated content is on the out, which makes me excited to hopefully see a rise of more authentic content. I love seeing real people live real lives :)

S: Jandals as streetwear, simply because I can't rock the style.

L: I can’t say there’s any trend that I actively dislike. However, though dull, I would like to see the word “unironically” fade away. It’s a redundant word that has replaced “genuinely” or “actually.”

I unironically can’t fault that! Moving on: 2025 has seen an ever-increasing focus on AI. What's the dumbest answer or question you've asked so far?

E: I don’t actually really use AI in my personal life, surprisingly, and use it for work as an assistive tool.

S: I asked AI to create an image of an insurance broker riding a mechanical bull. It actually did a great job!

L: I told the Canva AI image generator that it sucks. That was an unproductive AI session.

What's your favourite One Plus One office ritual or quirk?

E: The One Plus One random quiz is super fun - although I tend to score rather low!

S: My favourite ritual is One Plus One Academy. It's so interesting to learn from people in and around the PR industry.

L: It has to be lolly of the week. Before you joke, there’s a lot to be discovered when you really analyse a Skittle.
